Ive come across a cheap stainless powerflow exhaust system, cat back. Looks pretty snazzy but are they any good? I dont want to sound like a boy racer!

Hi, A few people here have them and say they are pretty good too... Can't beat S/S exausts for a meatier sound too. Go on, let the boy racer in you out.. :) Des. . . ;)

Yep, its pretty good kit, although the fitting depends upon the local spanner monkey of course - who tend to be spotty yoofs with no eye for detail or care about workmanship... IMHO! :) Yes, my exhaust is fine, and the fit is OK (now that its been refitted by someone else), but the original welding is still best described as 'agricultural'. My system is a 2.5 inch bore with a competition 100 cell catalytic converter. I was a bit worried about the emissions with this fitted, but the car sailed through her MoT last weekend, so no compalints there. Lifetime warranty too of course - although I'll only be using that for an outright component failure. Its not that noisy - it is *slightly* more noisy than standard, and can drone a bit on the motorway, but otherwise its very low key. Certainly no comparison to the stovepipe exhausts that you see on many kids cars these days. If the price is right, go for it :)

Hi, Re that drone you mention RT. Would this have anything to do with the thickness of steel they use on the pipes or the boxes?? I noticed on my V90 that the downpipes to the cat were double pipes, one inside the other.. Des. . . ;)

Hi, You "should" use stainless clips, but have you seen that topic on s/s clips for amazons? Maybe worth going to a s/s exaust supplier to see if they'll give you a few? But I suspect they use s/s bar stock and make their own.. :) The discolouration may have been burnt in deliberately!! I would think that it should polish out, but you may need to work hard to get it out! Des. . . ;)

Hi Tim, Try Autosol to get rid of the discolouration - I used to use it on my bike exhausts - works a treat. If its heavily blued due to heat, then try Blue-away - its a bikers favourite. BTW a 2inch internal system is only ok on a non turbo car. Standard size for a turbo (2.0 or 2.3) is 2.25inch cat back. The downpipe is 2.5inch dia. The 2 inch system will have too much restriction - your turbo will probably overheat and will be slow to spool up. Sorry... Re the constructon of my system - I honestly can't remember whether its twin walled or single. It must be a year old now. All I know is that the tail pipes polish up nicely still :D
