I am installing Pro tools 8 LE on my macbook pro. I am at a screen of installation options. The 2 automatically checked were: "pro tools LE 8.0.3" "digidesign coreaudio driver" The 2 unchecked are: "Avid Video Engine" "Midi IO Driver" As I'm sure you can tell, I am a complete beginner to this software. I want to start off on the right foot and don't want to miss installing anything I would potentially use. I was concerned about the video engine because I don't want it to affect any of the final cut and after effects editing i do on this comp for my job. I am concerned about the Midi io driver because it mentions in the setup guide something about it affecting my interface. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you don't have an AVoption or Mojo, you don't need the video engine. If you don't have a Digidesign Midi I/O, you don't need the Midi I/O driver.

Ah, you still may have overestimated the extent of my knowledge on this matter. Because I still am not sure if I have those things. If they are something I would have independently before installing pro tools then the answer would be "no." I wasn't sure, however, if these were items I would be installing with this pro tools disk. Sorry if that makes absolutely no sense.

All of those items are hardware. If you had them you would know. The has been discontinued for years while the has been discontinued more recently. The is the only one of those still currently available. I guarantee that you can safely ignore installing the Avid Video Engine and the Midi I/O driver.

I agree with Jimmy. Those things you really don't need. Here's a pic of the AVOption The Mojo SDI And the MIDI I/O If you don't have those items, leave the checkbox uncheck. You can always install them at a later time if you need to.
