Steps to reproduce: 1: Insert a new MIDI item and add a single note the full length of the item. 2: Add an instance of ReaControlMIDI to the item as an itemFX. 3: Set the play cursor to a beat or two beyond the item. 4: Open ReaControlMIDI and it's monitoring section. 5: Hit play and you'll notice a Note on followed by a Note off messsage even though the play cursor doesn't travel over the item. 6: Sometimes you have to hit play 2 or 3 times before you'll see the bug. Side note: Certain VST instruments will actually produce a sound when assigned as an itemFX because of this bug! Another side note: This bug does not happen with TrackFX. Tested on Windows Vista 32bit with REAPER 5.11pre14

"Pre" issues should be in the Pre-release forum. Anyway, I've just tried it here with v5.1 and cannot create the problem. Can you attach a small project that shows the problem?

I've actually researched this more, and it does not appear to be a bug -- the events received by the Take FX are used for chasing, and the take FX are reset immediately after. The MIDI notes are not sent to the track (other than for CC chasing purposes), and the audio produced by the take FX is never allowed to be output.

Edit: found 3 VSTi that DO output something in this case: "Chase MIDI note-ons" disabled + edit cursor at right edge of MIDI item + 5000ms tail lenght ("run fx when stopped" enabled + "flush on stop" enabled, anticipative processing disabled) 1. Vember Audio Surge 2. Wolfgang Palm Plex 2 3. Martinic Combo Model F (holding down spacebar to trigger start/stop very fast -> watch master level meter) With "Chase MIDI note-ons" enabled it also can happen but not that often it seems (and depending on playback start position)
